The Wolf Project to be presented in Kyiv

Zalyonka-Fest is excited to present The Wolf Project.

On 30th of November, 2015, dancers and choreographers Külli Roosna (Estonia) and Kenneth Flak (Norway) will present their most famous performance The Wolf Project at Molodoy theatre in Kiev.

The performance is based on Külli family history. On 25th of March, 1949, Külli Roosna’s grandmother was deported to Siberia together with tens of thousands of other Estonians. Many didn’t survive the journey. Her memories of this are not a written fiction novel, but are personal and very real experiences of living under an oppressive regime.

“The Wolf Project” explores the themes of power and manipulation, the relationship between man and government. Whom do we trust? Who shapes our opinions and views? Or do we simply follow power and the authority?

Gifted choreographers and dancers, participants of many European festivals, Külli Roosna (Estonia) and Kenneth Flak (Norway) have been collaborating since 2008. They have explored a wide range of themes, including ancient Viking mythology, contemporary internet culture and totalitarian regimes.

The core of their work is the dancing body’s possibilities and limitations, in a constant dialogue with the digital technologies and discourses that extend and counterpoint it.

On 29th of November, 2015, Külli Roosna and Kenneth Flak will give a workshop for dancers and choreographers of contemporary dance.

Zelyonka Fest: development of modern art – an indicator of social development.

In Kyiv the V International Festival of contemporary Dance theatre Zelyonka Fest 1.5 was held. During four days of the festival more than two thousand of participants took part in the event - – choreographers, critics of contemporary dance , beginners and professional dancers, and just spectators.

Elena Lobova, co-organazer of Zelyonka Fest: “One of the main objectives for us is to make the festival of contemporary dance socially significant event. Modern dance and modern art are the things that fight for minds, develop ability to think and reflect. For developing such branches of art, the financial support of business companies and the state authorities is demanded. Zelyonka Fest was held due to enthusiasm of the organizers, their friends and, of course, thanks to the interest of European colleagues to the modern Ukrainian dance. But it’s not enough to get a higher level. At the same time, this year we have met a lot of spectators who attended our festival last year. We were pleased to see them and that means that modern dance is interesting not only to the dancers but also to choreographers.”

Zelyonka fest 1.5 offered a rich educational program: three master-classes – from Da Soul Chung (Germany-South Korea), Lublin Dance Theatre (Poland) and Arts Printing House, two lectures – on the development of modern dance in France (Laurent van Kote, an international consultant of the Ministry of Culture of France) and on modern dance in Poland (Grzegorz Kondrasyuk, University of Maria Curie-Skłodowska and Ryszard Kalinowski, Lublin Dance Theatre).  In the end of the festival, visitors from Europe, choreographers and dancers from all regions of Ukraine met for a discussion about the search for their own path of development of modern dance in Ukraine. During this meeting, the creation of a professional association - the association "Platform of Contemporary Dance was announced".

«We can see quite clearly what Zelyonka Fest 1.6 will be. We’ve got a preliminary agreement on a whole block of performances with the Polish colleagues. Even before the festival the spectators called, asking whether the performances are interesting to children, many of them came with their children – that’s why we plan a separate children's program next time, says Anton Ovchinnikov, co-organizer Zelyonka Fest 1.5.  – Of course, we want to extend the range of participants. The teams from France, the Netherlands, Germany, the United States are regarded as participants for the next fest”.
