A new site specific performance to be presented at Kyiv Fortress in summer 2016
An R&D session for the project took place on 9-11th of October, 2015. The performance is dedicated to Ukrainian poets imprisoned by the Soviet government.
The authors of the project are Anton Ovchinnikov (Ukraine) and British choreographer Masha Gurina. The piece will be created in cooperation with Lublin dance theatre, video artists from Poland, and a group of young Ukrainian dancers.
The project will explore the topic of totaliarism – hence the site chosen for the performance.
Kyiv fortress is a historic spot of the city. A part of the fortress, Kosyi kaponir, was used to detain political prisoners. Polish officers who took part in January uprising of 1863-1864 were the first people to be held there. Some of them were shot. Later, the prisoners of the fortress included the participants of the revolution of 1905-1907.
The work on the performance will continue in spring 2016. More details to be announced later.
